If Instagram says your account was disabled, log in and follow the on-screen instructions to ask for a review: according to Meta's Help Center at the time of writing, that is the route for a disablement you believe is a mistake. The notice shows whether a review is still offered and until when, so act as soon as you can. Meta does not publish response times (users report anything from a few hours to a couple of weeks), and only Meta can reinstate the account, so a short, accurate appeal with matching identity details is your best tool.
What "disabled" means and what it does not
A disabled account is one Instagram has switched off. Meta's Help Center says accounts that do not follow its Community Standards may be disabled, and that in some regions accounts of people in a specific age range may be disabled under local law (see About disabled Instagram accounts). You can usually still reach a login screen, but instead of your feed you see a notice such as "Your account has been disabled" or "We suspended your account".
It is different from three things people often confuse it with. A verification prompt ("Confirm it's you") is a security check, not a ban. An action block ("Try again later") limits one feature for a while. And a deleted account is one you or Instagram removed completely, which cannot be appealed. Only the first case in the list below is covered by this guide: a real disablement.
- Notice says the account is disabled or suspended and offers a way to disagree: follow this guide.
- Notice asks you to confirm your identity or enter a code: complete the check, there is nothing to appeal yet.
- You can log in but one feature is limited: see our guide on being banned from posting on Instagram.
How to appeal a disabled Instagram account, step by step
- Stop trying things. Do not create new accounts, do not log in and out dozens of times, and do not install "unban" apps. Extra activity on a disabled account does not help and can add suspicious signals.
- Use your usual device and network. Open the Instagram app or instagram.com on the phone or computer you normally use, without a VPN.
- Read the notice and write down the details. Note the date, the stated reason and any deadline. Search your email (including spam) for messages from Instagram or Meta about the account.
- Choose the appeal option. The label depends on the app version and your region (for example "Request review" or "Appeal"). Meta's Help Center says to log in and follow the on-screen instructions.
- Confirm who you are. Meta may ask for the name on the account, the email or phone number, and sometimes a video selfie or an ID. Use real information that matches the account.
- Explain briefly if a text box is offered. Use the template below. Two or three sentences are enough.
- Submit once and keep proof. Take a screenshot of the confirmation. Then wait for the answer, which normally shows up on the login screen or by email.
How long does an Instagram appeal take?
Meta does not publish a guaranteed response time. What people commonly report is an answer within a few hours to a few days for a first appeal, and up to two weeks or more when the case goes to manual review. The answer normally arrives as a notice when you try to log in, or as an email.
If nothing has changed after about two weeks, check your spam folder, try the login screen again and look for a new appeal option. Re-submitting the same form every day does not make the review faster. Do not wait, though: the notice shows whether a review is still offered. Meta's Instagram article gives no number of days (its Facebook article states 180), so the notice is your only reliable guide to the deadline.
A short appeal text you can copy
Reviewers read many appeals, so be specific and calm. Replace the brackets with your own facts and delete anything that is not true for your case.
Hello, I am the owner of the Instagram account @[username], created in [year] with the email [email]. On [date] I received a notice that the account was disabled for [reason shown in the notice].
I believe this was a mistake because [one concrete fact: for example, I have not posted content of that type / someone else accessed the account on that date / the account is my business profile and all content is my own].
I can confirm my identity with [video selfie / ID]. Please review the decision and restore access to the account. Thank you.
Do not paste long life stories, threats or insults, and do not describe how much the account earns you. A clear fact and an offer to verify your identity work better than pressure.
When a disabled account cannot be recovered
Being honest about this saves time and money. Recovery is unlikely or impossible when:
- The review period ended. If the notice no longer offers a review, there is nothing left to submit in the app. Meta does not say how long a disabled Instagram account is kept, and it states that a deleted account cannot be restored.
- The violation is in a zero-tolerance category, such as child safety, terrorism, serious fraud or sexual exploitation. Meta's Transparency Center says some violations are severe enough to disable an account after a single occurrence, and appeals in these cases are very unlikely to succeed (Disabling accounts).
- Identity cannot be verified. If the account used a name, photo or details that you cannot prove are yours, the review usually fails.
- The decision is already final. After a rejected appeal there is often no further in-app option.
- The account was created to evade an earlier ban. Creating a replacement account to get around a ban breaks Instagram's rules and puts the new account at risk too.
If the appeal is rejected, read our step-by-step guide to the Instagram appeal form to check you used the right route. Business accounts can also contact Meta Business Support if they have an advertising account, and people in the EU can bring a platform decision to a certified out-of-court dispute settlement body under the Digital Services Act. One such body, Appeals Centre Europe, is free to use and covers Instagram, but it only reviews decisions made in the last six months and does not review decisions about fake or hacked accounts, ban evasion or impersonation. Its decisions are not binding on the platform.
Three mistakes to avoid while you wait
- Sharing your password. No legitimate helper needs your password to file an appeal. Anyone who asks for it is trying to take the account.
- Believing in secret channels. Be wary of anyone promising a guaranteed reinstatement or an "inside contact" at Meta. Nobody outside the company controls the decision.
- Appealing with invented facts. A false statement can end the review. If you do not know why the account was disabled, say so and ask for a review.
Frequently asked questions
How long do I have to appeal a disabled Instagram account?
Check the notice on your login screen: it shows whether a review is still offered. Meta's Help Center does not state a number of days for Instagram (for Facebook it states 180 days), and some users report around 30 days for Instagram, so treat that figure as unconfirmed and appeal as soon as you can.
Is it free to appeal to Instagram?
Yes. Instagram does not charge for appeals. Paid Meta Verified plans include extra support, but they do not buy back a disabled account or guarantee a decision.
What if I do not see an appeal option?
Try the Instagram app and instagram.com on the device you normally use, check your email for the notice and use the Help Center. If the account is beyond the deadline or the decision is final, the option may no longer be offered.
Can I appeal more than once?
That depends on the notice. Many people get one review per decision. If the same option appears again you can use it, but repeated identical submissions do not improve your chances.

If you have followed these steps and the platform rejected the appeal, or the account earns you money and you cannot risk another mistake, we can review your case. Send the username, the ban notice and the date on Telegram and we will tell you, before you pay anything, whether we can take it. No service can guarantee reinstatement: the decision always belongs to the platform.
